While in the class i saw a wide range of behavior from the students. There was one student who was moving around a lot and joking when the teachers back was turned. The teacher had to comment on his behavior multiple times. Most of the kids in the first row paid attention and were not easily distracted but as you got into the middle rows those kids were distracted. The kids in the middle rows had the distraction of some of the kids in the back row. there was also a group of girls that had to be separated by the teacher due to giggling and talking when the teacher was writing notes and discussing material with the class. Another class worked in the lab and there was a wide variety group interaction. there were the groups that had a couple students do the work while others copied, there were the groups where everyone participated and did the work, and there were the groups that were kind of unorganized and everyone kind of did there own thing.
Reflections:
The teacher did a good job of keeping the class moving and putting an end to bad behavior. When Mr. Wentworth was teaching he moved around and asked questions but didn't only call on people with their hands raised he called on other students to make sure they were paying attention. I feel like this made the kids more involved in the lesson being presented. The class was never really out of hand but there were some individual distractions that the teacher ended verbally and then physically when he separated two girls that wouldn't stop being disruptive. When i am teaching my class and asking questions and we are all discussing i will call people at random to see if they have an answer because i feel like far to often it is only the very high achieving and the disruptive kids that get all the attention. I will also make sure that when students work in lab groups or any groups that all the kids are involved and learning from the hands on experience they are getting. I think that by moving around your classroom it keeps students more alert also makes them get more involved during groups.
